Hennepin County Library Seeks Spanish Computer Instructor

Position: The Hennepin County Library is seeking a part-time, temporary instructor who can teach a basic computer literacy class to adult Spanish speakers at the downtown Minneapolis Central Library from September to November.

Qualifications: We are seeking someone who is bilingual in Spanish/English and who has a sufficient technical background to teach a basic computer class to adults at the library. The class is taught in Spanish. The ideal candidate should also have strong community organizing skills since a large component of the position is promoting the class in the community.

When/Where: The class meets every Saturday morning at the downtown Minneapolis Central Library (300 Nicollet Mall) from 10 am to noon starting Sept 12 and ending on Nov. 21.

Pay/hours: This is a contract position that is grant sponsored. The instructor will be paid $28.48 per hour putting in a maximum of five hours per week. Two hours are classroom time and the remaining two to three hours a week will be spent doing promotion and outreach of the class.

Oromo Interpreter (part-time)--Center for Victims of Torture

The Center for Victims of Torture is seeking a part-time Oromo Interpreter to provide Oromo/English interpretation services to international clients who are receiving therapy, social and medical services. Interpretation is typically in a face-to-face setting, but there may be periodic need for phone interpretation or document translation. Interpretation services are provided on a part-time, as-needed basis, at locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Hours vary, but typically interpreters will work between 5 to 15 hours per week.

Qualification:

  • Applicant must possess excellent interpreting skills.
  • Fluency in Oromo and English.
  • Interpreting experience in the medical, mental health or social services areas preferred.
  • Experience working in a confidential environment.
  • Interested in the advancement of human rights.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours between the hours of 9 am – 5 pm, Monday - Friday.

The Legal Rights Center, Inc. seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Latino Community Advocate. The Legal Rights Center is a community-based nonprofit providing: criminal defense services for adults and juveniles, restorative justice and other conflict resolution services, and community legal education - all in Hennepin County and all without charge to the client.

The Latino Community Advocate educates and advocates for the Spanish-speaking community, holding regular office hours at C.L.U.E.S. and Centro, as well as at the Legal Rights Center Ð and works with clients, LRC attorneys, and community resources to effectively resolve legal matters and associated problems. The Latino Community Advocate is also responsible for organizing legal education events on matters most affecting the Spanish-speaking community in order to prevent inadvertent legal problems or consumer victimization. This position may also involve working (alongside volunteers) on behalf of other immigrant populations, and helping to provide services to the entire client base of the Legal Rights Center.

  • Fully bilingual, Spanish and English, with Spanish as FIRST language. Deeply rooted in the Hennepin County Spanish-speaking community.
